Lease to Own Al-Futtaim: What It Is, and the Option Without a Bank
Al-Futtaim is one of the largest car groups in the UAE, and lease to own plans offered by dealer groups are normally arranged through a bank or a finance company. That means the usual paperwork: income proof, a credit bureau check, and in many cases a salary transfer. If you are self-employed on a trade licence, salaried without a salary transfer, or new in the country, this page explains your options, including Gleeven, a rent-to-own plan in Dubai that does not go through a bank.
What dealer lease to own usually means
Lease to own is a plan where you pay a fixed monthly amount to use a car, and at the end of the term the car becomes yours. The dealer sells the car, and a bank or a finance arm funds it.
With a large group like Al-Futtaim, the cars, the brands and the current offers sit with the dealer. The approval sits with the finance side. For exact terms, rates and the cars on offer, speak to Al-Futtaim directly. We do not publish their numbers here and we will not guess them.
What you should check before you sign any dealer or bank plan:
- Is a credit bureau (AECB) check part of the approval.
- Do they need a salary certificate or a salary transfer to their bank.
- Is there a down payment, and how much.
- Is there a final lump sum or balloon payment at the end.
- Are insurance and servicing included, or paid separately each year.
If the answers suit you, a bank backed plan is often the cheaper route over the full term. If you qualify, take it. We say that plainly because it is true.
Who gets stuck, and why
Plenty of people in the UAE cannot clear the bank stage, even with good money coming in every month. Common cases:
- Self-employed on a trade licence, with income that moves month to month.
- Salaried, but the salary is not transferred to the bank that is financing.
- New in the country, with a short banking history in the UAE.
- A past record on the credit bureau that is still open.
- No wish to add a bank facility, even if it would be approved.
If you are in one of these groups, a private rent-to-own plan is the other road. It is not a bank product. You deal with the company that owns the car.
How Gleeven works
Gleeven is rent-to-own cars in Dubai. The legal entity is Carborn Car Rental L.L.C, Dubai trade licence 1144437. The cars listed on our site are our own stock, and the contract you sign is with Carborn Car Rental L.L.C, licensed in Dubai.
The steps are simple:
- You pick a car from the list on gleeven.com. Each car shows its monthly payment and its term, 24 or 36 months depending on the car.
- You pay the starting payment, from 10 percent of the car price. That payment is what buys the car. It is not a deposit and there is nothing on top of it.
- You pay the same monthly amount for the full term.
- The last monthly payment is the last payment. There is no balloon and no final lump sum. The car is then transferred to you, as written in the contract.
During the term the car is registered to the owning company. At the end it transfers to you.
Documents: Emirates ID or passport with a valid UAE visa, a UAE driving licence, and a security cheque. No bank, no salary certificate, and the credit bureau (AECB) is not checked. We still review every application, so no one here will promise you approval before we look at your file.
On most plans, insurance and agreed servicing are inside the monthly payment. Fines and Salik are paid by the driver.
Side by side
| Item | Dealer or bank lease to own (typical) | Gleeven |
|---|---|---|
| Who approves | A bank or finance company | Carborn Car Rental L.L.C, Dubai |
| Salary certificate | Usually required | Not required |
| Credit bureau (AECB) | Usually checked | Not checked |
| Payment at the start | Varies by bank and car | From 10 percent of the car price |
| Insurance and servicing | Often paid separately | Inside the monthly payment on most plans |
| Final lump sum | Some plans have one | None |
| Cost over the full term | Often lower if you qualify | Higher than a bank rate |
| Uber or Careem | Needs commercial plates | Not allowed |
We are not cheaper than a bank. A private plan carries the insurance, the servicing and the risk, and that shows in the monthly figure. The reason people choose it is access and speed, not price.
What the plan cannot do
Read this part before you ask about cars.
- A car on a private rent-to-own plan cannot be used for Uber or Careem in Dubai. Ride-hailing needs commercial plates through a limousine company. Our plates are private.
- You must hold a UAE driving licence. A home country licence on a visit visa is not enough.
- The car stays registered to the owning company until the end of the term.
- Fines and Salik are yours.
- If the monthly payment is a stretch for you, a bank loan or a cheaper car is the better answer.
Prices and the current list
Monthly payments and terms sit on gleeven.com next to each car, because stock moves and the list changes. We do not quote a figure in an article, not even as an example, since a figure that is wrong next week helps nobody.
Open the site, pick the car, see the monthly payment and the term, then ask us for the starting payment on that car. You can also come to the showroom and look at the cars yourself: Midtown Central, Majan, Shop 28, Dubai. Open every day, 10am to 8pm.
